ASTRI
Year: 2024

Material: Birch

ASTRI is a three-legged stool made from laminated and steam-bent birch, where each leg interlocks to form both legs and seat.

The parts are milled so they slide precisely into one another and are held together by a single stainless-steel bolt.

The design began with a fascination for Aalto’s bent-wood techniques, but was developed into a lighter and more reduced expression focused on the simplicity of bent birch.

By removing the traditional seat and letting the curved legs carry the entire form, ASTRI reveals both the strength and softness of the material.

The stool packs flat, assembles in minutes, and reflects the project’s main intention: giving an underused material the attention it deserves.
